WORCESTER, Mass. (December 10, 2021)-Brendan Nehmer cut the Skyhawks deficit down to one with 16:30 left to go in the third period, however, Stonehill (4-8-1) could not complete the third-period comeback as the squad fell to Worcester State (6-6-0), 2-1 Friday evening in non-conference action at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.

How it Happened

  • The Lancers got on the board first early on (03:48) as Bridgham Neuhold happened to be in the right place at the right time as he cleaned up the deflected shot attempt by Mike Wilson to give Worcester State the 1-0.
  • Despite being down early, Stonehill had many opportunities in the first peppering Worcester State's goalie, Jakub Kubik with 12 shots led by Max Pineo's three (two on net) but Kubik made the saves each time.
  • Worcester State tacked on one more goal in the second period with just 7:05 left in the period as Drew Eid set up teammate, Max Roth for the Lancers second goal of the evening.
  • However, Stonehill's offense kept pushing the Lancers outshooting them by a 14-8 margin including three great chances by Charles PageAndrew Gotts, and Drew Gardner but unfortunately were turned away Kubik. Jake Cady also had one last attempt before the end of the period as well but had a similar result and could not find the back of the net.
  • The Skyhawks eventually cut the deficit down to one early in the third period (04:30) when Richard Hall sent his pass up to Gardner. From there, Gardner found an open Nehmer and rifled a shot past Rubik for his team-leading, the seventh goal on the year.

  • Stonehill had multiple opportunities in the third outshooting the Lancers, 9-8 which included one of Stonehill's three power-plays on the evening. During the third-period power-play, the Skyhawks registered two shots by John Peloso that ended up going just wide of Kubik.
  • In the last five minutes of the third, Stonehill applied pressure to Worcester State outshooting them 5-3 two great looks apiece from Page and Thomas Horak but just could not find the back of the net.
  • Overall on the night, John Day recorded 26 saves whereas Kubik made 34 saves for the hosts. Stonehill ended up outshooting Worcester State, 35-28.
