Ice Hockey Opens NE10 play with Victory at Assumption, 5-4

WORCESTER, Mass. (November 5, 2021) - Senior forward Mike Seoane's second goal of the night with just 14-seconds remaining in regulation halted a four-goal comeback from Assumption University and lifted the Skyhawks to a 5-4 victory to open the Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey season at Charles Buffone Arena this evening.

The Details

  • Seoane's gamewinner on a powerplay capped a three-point night for the Stonehill assistant captain with two goals and an assist. The power play goal capped a 4-for-7 night with the advantage for the Skyhawks tonight after being shutout over the first two games of the season last week.
  • Senior captain Charles Page and junior Brandan Nehmer each contributed a pair of assists for Stonehill.
  • Junior Collin Montgomery scored a pair of shorthanded goals in the third period to lead Assumption and knot the score at 4-4 after Stonehill had opened a 4-0 lead in the second period.
  • Junior John Day notched his first career win in goal for Stonehill, recording 31 saves.
  • Seoane had a hand in both Stonehill goals in the first period to grab a two goal lead after 20 minutes. He opened the scoring with Stonehill's first goal of the season, 8:25 into the game with assists to Nehmer and Page. He followed with a helper on sophomore Max Pineo's first collegiate goal on the power play with 2:34 left in the first.
  • Stonehill doubled its first intermission lead within the first five and a half minutes of the second with two more power play tallies. Nehmer and Page set up junior Teddy McElaney for his first goal of the season just 97-seconds into the second. Freshman Jake Cady's first collegiate goal extended the Skyhawks lead to 4-0, assisted by sophomore Patrick Sunderland, 5:38 into the second.
  • Assumption got on the scoreboard with 4:25 to play in the second with senior Devan Sheth scoring his third of the season, assisted by classmate Mike D'Ambrosio.
  • After senior Josh Pigott scored 1:37 into the third, Montgomery continued the comeback for Assumption with two shorthanded goals five minutes apart to draw the Greyhounds even (4-4) with 3:45 remaining. Sheth chipped in with an assist on Montgomery's first goal at 11:06.

    Seoane's second of the night, assisted by senior Augustus Stevens, lifted Stonehill to the win with the Skyhawks fourth power play tally of the night. Seoane tipped in a drive from the point by Stevens for his 13th career goal and fourth career power play tally to quiet the Assumption rally and lift the Skyhawks to the win.
