AMHERST, Mass. (May 10, 2023)- The Stonehill College baseball team concluded its four-game road trip with a non-conference matchup with UMass Amherst where the Skyhawks fell, 10-6 Wednesday afternoon.

Standout Performances

Key Moments

  • UMass started off quickly as the Minutemen plated scored seven runs in the first three innings. Nolan Tichy highlighted the scoring with his two-run home run in the bottom of the first that made it 3-0 at the time.
  • Stonehill threatened in the top of the fifth when the squad had runners at first and second with two outs after Conor Kiely was hit by a pitch which advanced Taylor Gaspar to second after he singled in previous at-bat. However, Minutemen starter Scott LeSieur escaped the threat when he retired the next batter.
  • After Tichy recorded another RBI in the bottom of the fifth, the Skyhawks trimmed the deficit to seven (8-1) after Ciulla-Hall ripped an RBI single to center that allowd Gaspar to score after he walked earlier in the frame.
  • The Skyhawks continued their momentum in the eighth when the Purple and White scored five runs (8-6) highlighted by RBI singles from Sam Parks and Lidsky in back-to-back at-bats. For Lidsky, it was his third hit of the day and second game overall this year with at least three hits.
  • However, in the bottom half of the inning, UMass pushed its lead back up to four (10-6) when Jack Peters hit a two-run RBI double up the middle.
  • Down to their last at-bats in the ninth, Mike Swanholm kept Stonehill's rally alive after he capitalized on a Minuteman error. Despite having a runner at first, UMass retired the next two batters and held on for the 10-6 win.
