NORFOLK, Va. (March 31, 2023)- The Stonehill College baseball team continued Northeast Conference play when the squad kicked off a three-game set with Norfolk State but fell in 10 innings, 6-3 Friday afternoon at Marty Miller Field.

Standout Performances

Key Moments

  • Stonehill jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to scores in back-to-back innings that led things off. In the first inning, Parks drove a double to right which allowed Conor Kiely to score after he drew a walk in the first. Later in the second, Dennis Folan's alert base running allowed him to come home after Kiely swiped second base.
  • Norfolk State responded though and retook the lead with a three-run third highlighted by a three-run shot to right from Manny Jackson and gave the hosts a 3-2 advantage.
  • From that point on, Iannibelli came on in relief for Zach Gleason and kept the Spartans at bay for six-straight innings which included a stretch where he retired six-straight batters between the fourth and sixth innings. Thanks to his strong pitching, Iannibelli kept the Skyhawks within striking distance and in the seventh, the Purple and White tied things at three when Marshall drove in Kiely who had singled to lead off the inning. With his single, Kiely extended his hit streak to a season-best, eight games which is his second longest hit streak in his career (14-2022).
  • After neither side could get the winning run across in nine innings, the game headed to extras where the Spartans walked off on a three-run home run courtesy of Jackson again for the series-opening win.

Win: Jack Iannibelli (2-2)
