Parks

EASTON, Mass. (April 18, 2023)- Stonehill College redshirt freshman, Sam Parks was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference earlier today.

Parks had a strong week for the Skyhawks with a game versus Holy Cross and helped the squad earn their first NEC series win as the Purple and White took two out of three from Coppin State. He batted .375 (6-for-16), scored four runs, drove in three RBIs, had three walks, and stole six bases. Parks recorded a stolen base in each game last week and in two of those games, he swiped two bags (April 11 vs. Holy Cross and April 15 at Coppin State). The redshirt freshman's 12 steals now has him ranked within the top 10 of the NEC in steals (sixth) and currently leads all freshmen in the conference.

Parks also posted a .500 OBP, a .375 slugging percentage, and a .875 OPS. In two of his four games, he recorded two hits (April 11 vs. Holy Cross and April 15 at Coppin State) and in both of those games, he had at least one RBI highlighted by the two in the April 15 contest at Coppin State.

Overall on the year, he is batting .293 (29-99), scored 17 runs, has 11 RBIs, drew 25 walks, has a .466 OBP, and a .343 slugging percentage. He is just one of three Skyhawks to have a batting average above .290 which puts him third on the team but leads the squad in steals.

Ryan Douglas also earned Prime Performer honors after he allowed an earned run while scattering two hits and three walks over seven innings with five strikeouts for the win (second career).

Stonehill takes on Harvard today at 3:30 p.m. but then continues NEC play this weekend with a three-game set against Deleware State starting on Friday, April 21 at 3:30 p.m. Saturday's game will also be Little League Day with food and ice cream trucks. After the game, Little League players can meet players on the Stonehill baseball team and run the bases.
