Stonehill Downed In Series Finale With Fairleigh Dickinson, 10-5

EASTON, Mass. (April 8, 2023)- The Stonehill College baseball team wrapped up their Northeast Conference series finale with the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights in a contest that saw 28 total hits but ultimately fell, 10-5 Saturday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field.

  • Stonehill jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first highlighted by Folan's two-run RBI single that found a gap in right center that made it 3-0 at the time. Ryan Flaherty brought home the squad's first run in the frame with an RBI single to right that plated Kiely after he singled to lead off the inning. 
  • After the Knights trimmed the deficit to one (3-2) in the second, Fairleigh Dickinson utilized a three-run third to go ahead 5-3 which included the go-ahead RBI from TJ Werner after he recorded a triple to right center. 
  • The Skyhawks threatened in the bottom of the fourth when the squad loaded the bases after Sam Parks drew a walk with one out. However, Brendan Medoro escaped the jam after he retired the next two Stonehill batters which kept the lead at 5-3.
  • Fairleigh Dickinson posted their second three-run inning of the day in the fifth which pushed their advantage to five (8-3) highlighted by a two-run RBI triple from Tom Ruscitti.
  • The Purple and White responded in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own to trim the Knights lead to three (8-5). Kiely ripped a two-run RBI single to right center for his second hit of the day. Kiely has now posted his second multi-RBI game of the year.
  • The Knights added two more runs and pushed their lead back to five (10-5) but in the bottom of the eighth, Stonehill once again had multiple runners on base. After Kiely notched his third on the day and Parks drew his second walk, The Skyhawks had runners at first and second with no outs but once again, Medoro got out of the frame when he retired the next three batters.
  • Fairleigh Dickinson would go on to pitch a scoreless ninth to secure the series sweep by a 10-5 score.
