Stonehill Doubles Up Hartford, 12-6

HARTFORD, Conn. (March 21, 2023)- The Stonehill College baseball team traveled down to Hartford for a nonconference matchup with the Hawks and doubled up the hosts, 12-6 Tuesday afternoon at Fiondella Field.

Key Moments

  • Stonehill jumped out to the early 1-0 lead when Jack Marshall launced a shot to left center for a ground-rule double and scored Sam Parks after he singled earlier in the frame. However, Hartford retook the lead with a three-run first highlighted by a two-run RBI double from Michael Alvarez. The squad trimmed the 3-1 deficit to one (3-2) when Blaine Lidsky hit a deep sacrifice to center and plated Mike Swanholm after he tripled to lead off the inning. 
  • The Purple and White took the lead back from the Hawks in the fourth when Douglas hit his first collegiate home run over the left field fence that also brought in Swanholm who doubled earlier. Hartford once again responded in the bottom half of the inning when JJ Romatzick hit a sacfrice fly and evened things at four.
  • Despite the game being tied, the Skyhawks utizlied a six-run sixth inning to pull ahead for good and go up 10-4. Trey Ciulla-Hall led the offense in the squad's scoring burst witha  two-run RBI double that went to left which made it 9-4 at the time. Stonehill continued their momentum into the seventh whe the squad tacked on two more runs after both Kiely and Parks drove in runs and increased their lead to eight (12-4)
  • Hartford grabbed two more runs back between the seventh and eighth to cut the deficit in half (12-6), but Christian Loescher and Douglas shut down the Hawks offense later in the eighth and ninth for the 12-6 win.
  • Stonehill recorded 11-hits which marked a new season-high for the Skyhawks and the third time overall this year the Purple and White posted 10 or more hits.
