HANOVER, Md. (April 14, 2023)- The Stonehill College baseball team kicked off their three-game Northeast Conference set at Coppin State with an 11-6 win Friday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium.

Standout Performances

Key Moments

  • After a scoreless first inning, the Skyhawks jumped on the Eagles first when Swanholm launched his second homer of the season to straight away center field that made it 2-0. Down to two outs in the frame, Ryan Douglas kept the inning alive with a single to center before Swanholm brought him home.
  • Later in the fourth, Stonehill tacked on another run courtesy of a Chris Roberti RBI single to right that plated Ciulla-Hall after he doubled to lead off the inning. The squad added on another run in the fifth to go up 4-0 when Ciulla-Hall sent a RBI single to left which allowed Conor Kiely to score after he singled earlier in the frame.
  • Throughout the first four innings, Stonehill starter, Pierce Friedman kept Coppin State's offense at bay which included a point in the bottom of the fourth where the freshman escaped a jam when the Eagles had runners on first and second. Friedman induced a clutch double play followed by a key strikeout and maintained the Purple and White's 4-0 advantage.
  • However, in the fifth, the hosts tied the contest at four with a four-run inning highlighted by Sebastien Sarbia's game-tying RBI. Two innings later in the seventh, Coppin State took the lead when the Eagles plated two runs which included the go-ahead RBI from Liam McCallum.
  • Despite being down two late, the Skyhawks responded with its largest scoring inning when the visitors scored four runs to retake the lead, 8-6. After Roberti tied things at six with his RBI double, Swanholm helped the squad take back the lead with his RBI single to right. Dylan Zemotel added an insurance run with his RBI single through the left side for the two-run lead.
  • The squad continued its offensive momentum in the ninth when the Skyhawks scored three more runs to go up, 11-6. Lidsky highlighted the offense in the inning with a two-run homer to left that made it 10-6. Lidsky's home run is his first of the season.
  • After coming in the eighth, Joe Castrichini shut down Coppin State by not allowing a hit and secured the conference win.
