Marshall Recognized As NCBWA East Region Pitcher of the Week

EASTON, Mass. (May 5, 2022)-For the first time in his career, Stonehill senior pitcher, Luke Marshall has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II East Region Pitcher of the Week as announced by the organization earlier this week.

Marshall continued to rack up the awards for his strong performance last weekend after already being named the  Northeast-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday.  Last weekend against Saint Anselm, Marshall struck out a career-high 12 batters in seven innings of work in an 8-2 win over the Hawks. During his dominant outing, Marshall had a stretch where he retired 11 straight batters from the third through the seventh inning. Out of those 11 batters, Marshall retired eight of them via strikeouts including a point in the fifth where he struck out the side.

During the season, Marshall has been having a career year. He has set new high's in the following categories: strikeouts (54), strikeouts per nine innings (10.27), and innings pitched (47.1). Throughout the year, Marshall has posted six games of five or more strikeouts and two of them were double-digit strikeout games (April 2, 2022-10 vs. Saint Michael's College and April 29, 2022-12 at Saint Anselm College). 

On the team, Marshall leads the squad in strikeouts and innings pitched and is second in wins (two) and strikeouts per nine innings. In terms of the conference, Marshall is top-15 in strikeouts (13th) and strikeouts per nine innings (eighth).

Overall, in his career, Marshall is 6-7 with a 5.64 ERA in 142.0 innings pitched. He has struck out 140 batters (8.87 strikeouts per nine innings) and given up only 85 walks. 

Coming up this week, Marshall and the Skyhawks start a crucial four-game series against Bentley University on Thursday, April 5 starting at 3 p.m. Stonehill's regular season concludes on Sunday, April 8 at 1 p.m. on what will be the team's senior day.
