Stonehill Falls In Doubleheader At No.17 Southern New Hampshire, 9-0 and 2-1

HOOKSETT, N.H. (March 26, 2022)- The Stonehill College baseball team continued their four-game series against No. 17 Southern New Hampshire University Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action but fell to the Penmen 9-0, and 2-1 at Penmen Field. 

Game 1: Stonehill 0, No.17 Southern New Hampshire 9

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Southern New Hampshire struck early in the first when Nick Schwartz drew a walk to make it 1-0. 
  • The Skyhawks threatened in the top of the second when Roberti ripped a single to left field and moved up to second after Ryan Douglas moved him up on a sacrifice bunt. However, Penmen starter, Josh Roberge retired the next two batters to end the Stonehill rally.
  • In the bottom of the third, Southern New Hampshire exploded for four runs (5-0) which featured a Sam Henrie two-run home run.
  • Stonehill threatened again in the top of the sixth after two singles from Lucier and Farragher. With runners in scoring position at second and third after Trey Ciulla-Hall reached on a fielder's choice, the Penmen again were able to end the threat by inducing a pop-out. 
  • The Penmen had another four-run (9-0) inning in the sixth that included a two-run home run from Idelson Taveras.

Game 2: Stonehill 1, No.17 Southern New Hampshire 2

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • The second game was more of a pitching duel as Stonehill starter, reigning NE10 Rookie of the Week, Peter Haas kept the Penmen offense at bay through the first three innings. During that span, Haas struck out the side in the bottom of the third. 
  • However, at the bottom of the fourth, Southern New Hampshire scored first (1-0) after Schwartz hit an RBI double to left. 
  • Despite falling behind, Stonehill tied things in the next half-inning when Douglas ripped an RBI single through second base and scored Taylor after he hit a single earlier in the frame. 
  • Going into the sixth tied at one, the Penmen reclaimed the lead (2-1) courtesy of a Michael Larocca RBI single for the eventual game-winning run.

Loss: Stonehill-Peter Haas (3-2)
