Baseball Falls In Season Opener To Franklin Pierce

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (February 24, 2022)-Stonehill College baseball opened up their season in their first of five games in Myrtle Beach, S.C. when they squared off against fellow Northeast-10 Conference member Franklin Pierce University in non-conference action. However, the Skyhawks fell to the Ravens by a score of 13-2 Thursday afternoon at The Ripken Experience. 

How It Happened

  • Franklin Pierce got the scoring started with three runs over two innings highlighted by a Jethro Hurt homer in the top of the second. 
  • However, Stonehill cut the deficit to two (3-1) in the bottom of the third when junior Conor Kiely reached on a one-out error at third, moved to second on a passed ball, and came around to score on an RBI single by senior Noah Lucier.
  • Despite cutting into the deficit, the Ravens added at least one run in each inning including a four-run seventh inning that made it 11-1 that had a triple by Ryan Lavelle
  • The Skyhawks ended up getting one run back (13-2) when Taylor Gaspar smacked a home run in the bottom of the ninth in his collegiate debut.
  • For Stonehill, Luke Marshall drew the start and went five innings, allowed six runs, and struck out three. Meanwhile, for Franklin Pierce, Patrick Hannon tossed eight innings, allowed one run and struck out nine.

Stonehill continues their Myrtle Beach play tomorrow when they go against Molloy College in a double-header at 11:00 a.m. Franklin Pierce also resumes their Myrtle Beach action when they play Post at 5 p.m.
