EASTON, Mass. (April 22, 2022)- The Stonehill College baseball team opened a four-game Northeast-10 Conference series against Franklin Pierce and fell 7-4 in 11 innings Friday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field.

Standout Performances

Key Moments:

  • Stonehill got the scoring started early in the bottom of the first when Ciulla-Hall ripped a double to deep left center which allowed both Matt Farragher and Conor Kiely to score after Farragher reached on an error at first and Kiely singled that led off the contest.
  • Luke Marshall got the start for the Skyhawks and had not allowed a hit throughout the first three innings. Marshall also got himself out of a bases-loaded jam in the third when he induced a flyout to end the Ravens threat.
  • However, Franklin Pierce cut the deficit to one after a solo home run courtesy of Charles Lebron that made it 2-1 in the fourth inning.
  • The Skyhawks responded in the bottom half of the frame when Taylor smacked a two-run RBI double down the third baseline (4-1) that brought home Ciulla-Hall who walked earlier in the inning and then Lidsky who singled to lead off the bottom of the fourth.
  • Franklin Pierce once again cut the Stonehill lead to one (4-3) after a two-run sixth that featured an RBI from Randy Flores.
  • The Ravens continued their momentum in the top of the eighth and tied things at four after Graham Smith hit a sharp grounder to third that allowed the runner to score.
  • As both sides headed into extra innings, Stonehill threatened in the 10th inning when Farrager led things off with a single. After that, he was able to advance all the way to third after Lidsky laid down a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt, and then moved up on a wild pitch. Despite being 90-feet away, the Skyhawks could not push Farragher across as the game headed to the 11th.
  • In the 11th, Franklin Pierce exploded for three runs (7-4) that featured a two-run go-ahead RBI double from Jose Savinon.
  • Stonehill made things interesting in the bottom of the 11th when they loaded the bases with two outs after Noah Lucier drew a walk. Unfortunately, the Ravens got out of the jam with a grounder to third for the win.

Pitching Records:

  • Win: Franklin Pierce-Hunter Reynolds (1-0)
  • Loss: Stonehill-Billy Duff (0-1)
