However, in game two, Stonehill fell to Southern Connecticut, 9-6 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field.

Key Moments:

  • Southern Connecticut wasted no time in the first two innings plating seven runs and three coming via walks. However, in the bottom half of the second, Stonehill got their first run on the board after Taylor capitalized on a fielding mishap by the Owls' first basemen from a solid hit by Gaspar.
  • The Owls ended up pushing their lead up to 10 (11-1) after scoring four more times in the third courtesy of an RBI single from Mike DeMartino that eventually pushed the advantage to double digits.
  • Despite the large deficit, that did not deter Stonehill as the squad responded with a four-run fourth inning to cut the Owls' advantage down to six. Jack Marshall got the inning started after he reached on a throwing error by the Southern Connecticut shortstop. Later, Ryan Douglas hit a ground-rule double to left to put runners on second and third with one out.
  • In the very next at-bat, Gaspar launched a three-run home run to left to make it 11-4 Owls. Three batters later, Lidsky would drive in one more run on a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 11-5.
  • Going into the bottom of the fifth, Gaspar was not done as the freshman hit his second home run on the afternoon that scored three and trimmed the Southern Connecticut lead down even more (11-8).
  • Stonehill's bats continued to take advantage of the Owls pitching as the purple and white claimed their first lead in the contest with their second four-run inning of the afternoon in the bottom of the sixth. Lidsky got the scoring started when he smacked his ninth home run of the season that put the Skyhawks down two (11-9). After a  Marshall single, Taylor tied the contest at 11 all after his two-run home run to left field.
  • After back-to-back singles from Gaspar and Kiely, Noah Lucier drove in the eventual game-winning run for Stonehill when he ripped a single to center that allowed Gaspar to score and give the squad their first lead on the day.
  • Needing to add some insurance runs, in the next half inning, Lidsky hit his team-leading 10th home run of the season to make it 13-11. Lidsky struck again in the bottom of the eighth to increase the Stonehill lead to three (14-11).
  • In the ninth inning, Brendan Kelly got the save with a 1-2-3 ninth in which the Skyhawks completed their largest come-from-behind victory in the program's history (based on available data).

Key Moments:

  • Stonehill's offense continued right where it left off from game one as Lidsky smacked a double to right-center and allowed Lucier to score after he singled earlier in the inning for the quick 1-0 lead.
  • Despite jumping out to a quick lead, the Owls came right back and reclaimed the lead in a three-run third (3-1) that featured a Chad Fedeli home run.
  • Like last game, the Skyhawks did not let a deficit set them back after posting a five-run fifth inning. After Kiely laid down a bunt, Gaspar took advantage of a wild throw from the pitcher who had tried to get Kiely out and scored to make it 3-2, Owls. Later in the inning, Matt Farragher singled past short and Trey Ciulla-Hall drew a walk to load the bases. In the next at-bat, Marshall launched his first grand slam to reclaim the lead (6-3).
  • However, in the sixth, the Owls had a five-run inning of their own to eventually pull back ahead, 8-6. In Southern Connecticut's big inning, they retook the lead after taking advantage of a wild pitch that allowed Fedeli to score the go-ahead run.
  • Fedeli added one more run in the top half of the seventh to give Southern Connecticut a 9-6 advantage in what ended up being the final score of game two.
