FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (March 11, 2022)- In their second matchup together since being down in Florida, the Stonehill College baseball team avenged an earlier loss to American International College by topping the Yellow Jackets, 16-4. Chris Roberti hit his third home run of the season Friday. Roberti has now homered in two of his last three games meanwhile Blaine Lidsky extended his hitting streak to seven after going 2-5 on the day.

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • After both sides were scoreless through two innings, Stonehill exploded for seven runs in the third (7-0). Lidsky got the scoring started after he ripped an RBI double to right-center to score Kiely who had tripled to lead off the inning. Later in the inning, Ciulla-Hall sent a double to left-center and drove in Lidsky and Noah Lucier who had walked earlier. Kiely capped off the inning after he hit a ball to right that the Yellow Jackets outfielder misplayed that allowed Taylor Gaspar and Roberti to both score.
  • Later in the fifth, the Skyhawks added on three more runs (10-0) that featured an RBI double after he smoked a ball to left-center which allowed Ciulla-Hall to score after he started the inning with a walk.
  • Two innings later in the seventh, the Skyhawks had another offensive explosion when the purple and white tacked on six more runs. In that inning, Roberti belted a three-run home run to left that ended up ultimately pushing their lead to 16 (16-0).
  • Meanwhile, Stonehill starter, Peter Haas was stellar in his third start by shutting down the Yellow Jackets in his six innings of work. American International was never able to get anything going as they threatened once having runners at first and second with two outs in the fifth, but Haas got out of the jam when he induced a groundout.
  • However, in the ninth, American International grabbed trimmed the deficit to 12 (16-4) after Chad Lavelle hit a grand slam to right field. Despite the grand slam, pitcher, Tyrell Bernal was able to wrap up the game with a strikeout and then a groundout.
