Men's Tennis Downed at Colgate, 6-1

HAMILTON, N.Y. (April 14, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team dropped a 5-1 decision to Colgate University in Hamilton, New York Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 6-15 overall, while the Raiders improve to 6-14 on the year.

  • Freshman Jacob Borch-Nielsen highlighted the Skyhawks against Colgate, finishing as a double-winner on the afternoon.
  • Sophomore Mathias Langaard combined with Borch-Nielsen for their first doubles win of the season.
  • Junior Josh Israel and freshman Jerome Falcon led the way for Raiders as double winners on the day.
  • Senior Mike Thomas, sophomore Aidan Lee, and sophomore Aidan Chung also earned singles triumphs for Colgate. 

How It Happened

  • Freshman Parker McGowan and Falcon earned the first point of doubles play with a 6-2 win over sophomore Mateo Mallen and senior Louis Coppi at the No. 3 slot.  
  • Borch-Nielsen and Langaard won at No. 2 doubles over sophomore John Fazli and Chung, 6-4. 
  • Junior Benito Vlassis and Israel clinched the Raiders' doubles point after taking down sophomore classmates Mark Kröll and Donovan Rodrigues, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles.
  • Borch-Nielsen secured his double win on the day with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Vlassis at the No. 1 singles position. 
  • Following the Skyhawks win in singles play, Colgate would sweep the next five singles matchups.
  • Israel and Falcon capped off their double wins with victories at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively. 
  • Lee, Thomas, and Chung rounded out the Raiders singles victories on the day at the third, fifth, and sixth positions of singles competition, sealing the 5-1 match win for Colgate.
