Men's Tennis Falls at Home to FDU

LAKEVILLE, Mass. (March 23, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at the Lakeville Athletic Club to Northeast Conference opponent FDU Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 4-10 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while the Knights improve to 9-5 overall and 3-1 against conference opponents.

Highlights

  • Freshman Armaan Mullick picked up the lone victory for the Skyhawks at No. 4 singles.
  • Junior Thomas Linley and sophomore Gryffin Minor led four double-winners for FDU in the victory.
  • Senior Arjun Sriram and sophomore Andrew Nicolae also earned singles and doubles wins for the Knights.
  • Sophomore Jorge Alonso-Cortes capped off the FDU points on the day at the No. 5 singles slot for his team-leading 16th win of the season. 

How It Happened

  • Linley teamed up with sophomore Joshua Oboniye to defeat freshman Jacob Borch-Nielsen and junior Jacob Wilhelm Krefting, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles. 
  • Linley capped off his double-win on the day by winning the No. 2 singles match, 6-4, 6-3, over sophomore Mateo Mallen.
  • Minor and sophomore Tyler Crook secured the doubles point at the No. 2 slot, while Sriram and Nicolae rounded out the sweep of doubles competition against Mallen and senior Louis Coppi. 
  • After the Knights won the first three matches of the singles competition, the Skyhawks struck back with a point of their own.
  • At the No. 4 singles position, Mullick defeated freshman Asaf Schwartz 7-6, 6-4, for his third overall win and second in NEC play this season.  
  • Following Mullick's victory, Coppi and sophomore Mark Kröll would battle their opponents to three-set matches. 
  • However, Alonso-Cortes and Nicolae would come out on top at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles slot to win the match over the Skyhawks, 6-1.
