Men's Tennis Downed by Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. (April 9, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Bentley University Tuesday at the Cordish Tennis Center in Waltham, Massachusetts. With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 5-13 overall, while the Falcons improve to 6-10 on the year.

Highlights

  • Freshman Jacob Borch-Nielsen and junior Jacob Wilhelm Krefting picked up their team-leading fifth doubles win of the season.
  • Sophomore Mark Kröll secured the lone point for the Skyhawks with his sixth win of the season at No. 6 singles.
  • Senior Gabe Horwitz, sophomore Nikolai Pran, freshman Ansh Chadha, and senior Diego Ramos led the Falcons as double winners.
  • Senior Max Bonte also earned a singles triumph for Bentley.

How It Happened

  • Borch-Nielsen and Wilhelm Krefting took the first match of doubles competition, 6-2, over Bonte and graduate student Christian Duffy. 
  • Following Stonehill's win at No. 1 doubles, both the Falcon pairings of Horwitz and Pran and Chadha and Ramos clinched the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles slots. 
  • Borch-Nielsen and senior Louis Coppi battled their opponents to three-set matches at No. 1 and No. 5 singles. However, both Ramos and Bonte would come out on top for Bentley.
  • Horwitz, Pran, and Chadha capped off their double-wins on the day against sophomore Mateo Mallen, freshman Armaan Mullickand Wilhelm Krefting.
  • Kroll earned the lone point for Stonehill in the non-conference matchup, taking down junior Liam Marr, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 6 singles.

Stonehill (5-13, 1-5 NEC) will travel to West Windsor, New Jersey, on Friday to compete in the play-in round of the Northeast Conference Tennis Championship Tournament. The Skyhawks will match up against Wagner College on Friday, April 12th, at 9 a.m.
