Men's Tennis Rounded Out its Spring Break Trip Against Eckerd College

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 8, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Eckerd College Friday afternoon at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 4-8 overall, while the Tritons improve to 4-5 on the year. 

Highlights

  • Sophomore Batu Ataseven and junior Christian Kearns led Eckerd as double winners.
  • Also earning singles triumphs for the Tritons were freshman Mario Kirkov, junior Eric Asakura, freshman Marshall Hulett, and junior Phil Grueninger.
  • The sophomore duo of Mark Kröll and Donovan Rodrigues picked up their second doubles win of the season.
  • Sophomore Mateo Mallen and senior Louis Coppi secured the doubles point in the match for the Skyhawks with a win at No. 3 doubles.

How It Happened

  • Ataseven and Kearns teamed up at No. 1 singles to defeat freshman Jacob Borch-Nielsen and junior Jacob Wilhelm Krefting, 6-4.
  • Kroll and Rodrigues teamed up to defeat Kirkov and Hulett at the No. 2 doubles slot, 7-6 (7-1).
  • Mallen and Coppi clinched the doubles point quickly at No. 3 doubles, earning a 6-0 victory over Grueninger and Asakura.
  • Eckerd won all six singles matches as Ataseven rounded out his double win on the day against Borch-Nielsen at No. 1 singles.
  • Kearns secured his double victory after taking down Krefting at the No. 3 slot, 7-6, 7-6.
  • Asakura rallied from a set down to win a 1-6, 6-3, 7-4 decision at No. 4 singles against freshman Armaan Mullick.
