Men's Tennis Takes Home First NEC Victory Over Wagner College, 6-1

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (February 24, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team fell earned its first Northeast Conference (NEC) victory in program history after defeating Wagner College, 6-1, Saturday morning.  

Highlights

  • Stonehill's match victory over the Seahawks marked its first-ever NCAA Division I conference win.
  • Freshman Jacob Borch-Nielsen and junior Jacob Wilhelm Krefting combined for their second doubles win.
  • The pairing took down freshman Filippo Tonnicchi and senior Rodrigo Perez, 6-3 at the No. 1 doubles slot, before sophomore classmates Mark Kröll and Donovan Rodrigues earned the doubles point for the Skyhawks at No. 3.
  • Kröll and Rodrigues defeated the senior duo Lucas Darling and Aryan Gupta, 6-2.
  • After earning the doubles point, Borch-Nielsen, Krefting, and Kröll would secure their double wins on the matinee matchup at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 6 singles, respectively.
  • Borch-Nielsen earned a win at No. 1 singles over Tonnicchi, 6-2, 3-0, while Krefting swept a two-set victory against junior Jordan Hunte.
  • With the victory in hand for the Skyhawks, Kröll capped off his double-win with an 8-4 pro-set win against freshman Naseem Rahman.
  • Freshman classmates Alexis Chastang and Armaan Mullick each earned their second and sixth singles wins, respectively.
