Men's Tennis Takes Down Eastern Nazarene, 4-3

EASTON, Mass. (April 2, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team defeated Eastern Nazarene, 4-3, on Tuesday afternoon at the Charles Watt Tennis Courts. With the win, the Skyhawks improved to 5-10 overall, while the Lions fell to 8-7 on the year.

Highlights

  • Junior Jacob Wilhelm Krefting led a trio of double winners on the day for the Skyhawks.
  • Sophomore classmates Mark Kröll and Donovan Rodriguesearned singles and double triumphs for Stonehill.
  • The Skyhawks swept the doubles competition for the fourth time this season against the Lions.
  • First-year classmates Dmitrii Semenov and Daniel Gonzalez, as well as sophomore Luis Hernandez, picked up the singles victories on the afternoon for Eastern Nazarene.

How It Happened

  • Wilhelm Krefting teamed up with freshman Jacob Borch-Nielsen at No. 1 doubles to defeat Semenov and Alejandro Gallardo, 6-3.
  • Kroll and Rodrigues secured the doubles point for Stonehill with a 7-5 victory over senior Franco Milivinti and Hernandez at the No. 2 slot.
  • Senior Louis Coppi and sophomore Mateo Mallen clinched the Skyhawks' fourth doubles sweep of the season with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles. 
  • The Lions won three of the first four matches of the singles competition, with Semenov, Gonzalez, and Hernandez taking home victories at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 singles, respectively. 
  • Despite Eastern Nazarene taking three of the first four singles matches, Wilhelm Krefting secured his double win on the day with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Milivinti at No. 2 singles.
  • Kroll capped off his double-win and tied the overall match at three aside with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. Rodrigues, not to be outdone, battled his way to a thrilling three-set, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1, win over senior Avelino Parrondo at the No. 6 slot, sealing the victory for Stonehill.
