Men's Tennis Falls to Sacred Heart, 6-1, at Lakeville

LAKEVILLE, Mass. (April 6, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team fell to Northeast Conference foe Sacred Heart University, 6-1, Saturday night at the Lakeville Athletic Club. With the loss, the Skyhawks drop to 5-11 overall and 1-5 in conference play, while the Pioneers improve to 4-14 overall and 3-3 against conference opponents on the year.

Highlights

  • Junior Jacob Wilhelm Krefting and sophomore Mark Kröll earned their first doubles win of the season as a pairing.
  • Sophomore Mateo Mallen and senior Louis Coppi clinched the doubles point for the Skyhawks at the No. 2 slot.
  • Sacred Heart swept the Skyhawks during singles competition, winning all six matchups.
  • Senior Lefteri Apostolou earned his team-leading 11th overall win of the season and ninth playing at the No. 1 slot of singles for the Pioneers.

How It Happened

  • Wilhelm Krefting teamed up with Kroll at No. 1 doubles to Apostolou and freshman Enrique Laennec-Baffrey, 6-2.
  • Mallen and Coppi secured the doubles point for Stonehill with a 6-2 victory over junior Matyas Vencl and junior Darius Eftekhar at the No. 2 slot. 
  • The Pioneers took the first two matches of singles competition swiftly. However, at the No. 3 slot, freshman Armaan Mullick battled his opponent to a three-set tiebreaker.
  • Junior Antoine Hernandez eventually defeated Mullick in three sets: 6-4, 4-6, and 7-6. 
  • Sacred Heart rounded out its sweep of singles competition, with sophomore Arya Alla, sophomore Paul Goncalves, and Eftekhar each earning singles triumphs to cap off the Pioneers' 6-1 match victory.
