NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (May 18, 2023)- The Stonehill College baseball team opened up its final three-game Northeast Conference series with the conference-leading, Central Connecticut State Univeristy Blue Devils and fell 24-6 Thursday afternoon.

Standout Performances

Key Moments

  • In the opening frame, Stonehill got on the Blue Devils early as Conor Kiely led off the inning with a single back up the middle. Later in the first, Ciulla-Hall belted his ninth home run of the season which is currently tied for 10th in the conference. Ciulla-Hall has also now driven in at least one RBI in his last three contests.
  • However, in the bottom half of the first, the Blue Devils retook the lead courtesy of a three-run inning highlighted by Ramon Jimenez's two-run RBI single that made it 2-2 at the time.
  • After neither side scored in the second, Central Connecticut blew the game open between the third and fourth when the hosts scored 12 runs between the innings. Joe Rios highlighted the third with a two-run RBI triple and in the fourth, Derek Haughey had a two-run home run that put the Blue Devils up 9-0 at the time.
  • From there, for the next three innings, Stonehill's bullpen kept the Central Connecticut offense at bay by only allowing just two hits and no runs.
  • Although Stonehill's pitching kept the hosts offense quiet, the Blue Devils exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the eighth that included a Josh Taylor three-run homer.
  • Despite the large deficit, Stonehill did not go quietly as the squad plated four runs that had two RBI doubles off the bats of Taylor Gaspar and Sam Parks. However, the Blue Devils pitching shut down the late momentum by retiring the next batter for the series-opening win.
