Key Moments

  • Game one was a classic pitcher's duel between Stonehill starter, Matt Tyman and Delaware State starter, Nathan Vidmar. The Hornets nearly struck first in the top of the first when the visitors loaded the bases with one out after Krew Bouldin was hit by a pitch. Despite having the bases full of Hornets, Tyman escaped the jam when he retired the next two batters via strikeout and flyout.
  • Vidmar kept the Skyhawks bats quiet as the freshman allowed six hits in just six innings of work. The Skyhawks had their big chance to score in the bottom half of the fifth when the Purple and White loaded the bases themselves when Parks drew a walk. However, Vidmar got out of the inning unscathed as he struck out the next batter and induced a crucial ground out.
  • After Tyman retired the side in the seventh, Stonehill finally broke the scoreless tie when Parks ripped an RBI single past second base that allowed Dylan Zemotel to score after he drew a walk to lead off the inning. Later in the frame, Blaine Lidsky drove in an insurance run with a nicely laid out sacrifice bunt which brought Parks home after he stole second and moved up to third by avoiding the tag on a Trey Ciulla-Hall grounder.
  • The squad tacked on another run in the eighth to go up 3-0 when Conor Kiely reached on a fielder's choice that brought home Mike Swanholm who walked to lead off the inning.
  • Tyman retired the first two batters in the ninth and despite a single from Jancarlos Colon, the senior retired the next batter for the complete game win.

Key Moments

  • After Delaware State struck first in the top of the first (1-0), Stonehill evened things at one when Max Martin drew a walk which brought Lidsky across the plate after he doubled to lead off the inning.
  • In the bottom half of the third, the Skyhawks did most of their damage when the squad plated eight runs to go up 9-1. Parks scored the eventual game-winning run after he took advantage of a Hornets wild pitch. Later in the inning, Marshall belted his second career grand slam which put the Skyhawks up 6-1. His previous grand slam was last season versus Southern Connecticut State University (April 16).
  • From there, Douglas kept the Delaware State offense in check as the sophomore had a stretch between the fourth and fifth where he retired six-straight batters. Later in the contest during the sixth and seventh, the visitors trimmed their deficit to six (9-3) highlighted by RBIs from Krew Bouldin and Mason Brewer.
  • The Skyhawks responded in the bottom of the eighth with a run of their own when Ciulla-Hall launched his fifth homer of the season to left and pushed Stonehill's lead back to seven (10-3).
  • Although the Delaware State pulled within five (10-5) after a two-out two-run RBI double from Trey PaigeBilly Duff retired the next batter for the doubleheader sweep and series win.
