STATEN ISLANDN.Y. (May 5, 2023)- The Stonehill College baseball team kicked off their three-game Northeast Conference series at Wagner College where the squad fell in 10 innings, 4-3 Friday afternoon at SIUH Community Park.

Standout Performances

Key Moments

  • Wagner opened up the scoring early when the hosts plated three runs in the first two innings. The Seahawks grabbed their largest lead in the second courtesy of a Maimu Kobayashi RBI single that made it 3-0.
  • After a scoreless third inning, Stonehill responded and evened things at three. Kiely started the rally off by getting on base after he was hit by a pitch and in the next at-bat, Sam Parks drew his 34th walk of the season. Parks is now one seven in the conference with 30 or more walks. Ciulla-Hall came up next and launched his team-high seventh home run to left. For Ciulla-Hall, he has now homered in two of his last four games.
  • From there, Friedman shut down the Wagner offense by not allowing a run for six-straight innings. This included a stretch from the bottom of the fifth through the first part of the ninth where he retired 12 straight batters.
  • Stonehill had many great chances to pull ahead including a point in the ninth where the Skyhawks had runners on first and third with two outs after Taylor Gaspar reached on a fielding error that allowed Ryan Douglas to advance to third after he singled earlier in the frame. Despite having runners at the corners, Wagner escaped the jam when Ryan Bilka induced a line out.
  • In the 10th, the Seahawks ended up walking off when Dimaggio Cazares hit the game-winning RBI triple for the 4-3 win.
