Stonehill's Four-Run Ninth Pushes Skyhawks Past Wagner, 7-3

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (May 6, 2023)- Going into the ninth inning tied at three, the Stonehill College baseball team utilized a four-run ninth to ultimately earn a 7-3 Northeast Conference victory at SIUH Community Park.

Key Moments

  • Through the first four innings, neither side generated much offense as both starters kept each side at bay. Stonehill Matt Tyman did not allow the Seahawks to generate much offense as the senior allowed just two base runners during the first four.
  • Stonehill had multiple chances early on to score as it had four runners on base in the first two innings but could not push runs across. However, in the fifth, the Skyhawks got on the board first thanks to a sacrifice RBI courtesy of Blaine Lidsky
  • Later in the contest in the bottom of the seventh, Wagner responded with a three-run inning highlighted by a three-run RBI double from Maimu Kobayashi that made it 3-1. However, in the next half inning, Stonehill evened the contest at three when Gaspar had an RBI single to center. Earlier in the top of the eighth, Ryan Douglas plated the first run when he had a single of his own that allowed Jack Marshall to score after he doubled to lead off the frame. 
  • After Billy Duff shut down Wagner in the eighth, the squad exploded for their largest scoring inning as the Skyhawks scored four runs and retook the lead, 7-3. Lidsky scored the eventual game-winning after he capitalized on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Gaspar belted a three-run homer to left. In the bottom of the ninth, Duff had a 1-2-3 inning that secured the win.
