Stonehill Doubles Up Harvard, 8-4

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (April 18, 2023)- In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, the Stonehill College baseball team earned a non-conference victory at Harvard University, 8-4 Tuesday afternoon.

  • In the first three innings, Harvard tacked on three runs which included a solo home run by Hunter Baldwin in the first.
  • After Harvard scored its fourth run in the third, Brulport came in for starter, Jonathan Riceand with a runner on first with one out, Brulport escaped the jam when he retired the next two batters.
  • Despite the four-run lead, Stonehill trimmed its deficit to one in the fourth thanks to a three-run inning highlighted by an RBI single from Taylor Gaspar that made it 4-3. The Skyhawks grabbed their first run when Lidsky ripped an RBI single to left center that allowed Ciulla-Hall to score after he led off the inning with a single. Later in the frame, with Lidsky on third, he took advantage of a wild pitch and scored the team's second run.
  • From there, Brulport continued his strong pitching and silenced Harvard's offense as the sophomore did not allow a run the rest of the way.
  • Down one in the seventh, the Skyhawks evened things at four when Ciulla-Hall drove in Conor Kiely after the squad took advantage of a Harvard fielding error. In the next at-bat, Lidsky drove in the go-ahead run when he sent a single past the shortstop which allowed Sam Parks to score after he drew a walk.
  • Stonehill posted its second three-run inning in the ninth and increased its lead to four (8-4) highlighted by a Ciulla-Hall RBI double to right center. In the bottom of the ninth with one out, Harvard threatened with the bases loaded, and with the tying run at the plate, Brulport secured the win after he generated a game-ending double play.

Stonehill starts up a three-game Northeast Conference set with Delaware State starting Friday, April 21 at 3 p.m. On Saturday's game, the team will be hosting Little League Day with food and ice cream trucks. After the game, Little League players can meet players on the Stonehill baseball team and run the bases.
