Stonehill Drops Doubleheader At Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas (February 25, 2023)- In their first doubleheader of the season, the Stonehill College baseball team fell to the Tarleton State Texans, 14-4 in game one, and 16-4 in game two Saturday at the TSU Baseball Complex.

Game One: Stonehill 4, Tarleton State 14

Key Moments

  • After Tarleton jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after one, Stonehill responded with a three-run top of the second and went up 3-1. With already two runners on, Gaspar had a triple to left field that brought in two. Later in the inning, Kiely ripped an RBI single through the right side and plated Gaspar for the squad's third run.
  • The Skyhawks continued their momentum in the top half of the third when Ryan Douglas drove in Marshall with a sacrifice fly to center for the Purple and White's larget lead (4-1). However, in the bottom half of the third and fourth, the Texans scored a combined six runs highlighted by a Cris Enriquez three-run homer in the fourth for a 7-4 lead.
  • Tarleton State broke the game open in the sixth and held on as the hosts scored six runs that featured a three-run RBI double from Cole Miears which made it 11-4 at the time.

Key Moments

  • Tarleton State wasted no time as the hosts jumped out to a 12-0 advantage through three innings which featured a two-run RBI double from Colby Feris in bottom half of the first.
  • After the Texans tacked on another run in the fifth, Stonehill got on the board and posted three runs in the sixth which made it 13-3. Parks and Florio each drew walks for the squads first two runs and later in the inning, Kidder had a sacrifice fly to right that scored Kiely.
  • The Texans tacked on three more runs in the sixth for their 15th and 16th runs. However, in the top of the seventh, Kiely notched an RBI single after he sent a hard shot past the right side and made it 16-4. Although Kiely's RBI kept the inning alive, Haley retired the next batter for the doubleheader sweep.
