EASTON, Mass. (April 21, 2023)- The Stonehill College baseball team kicked off game one of three in its Northeast Conference matchup with the Delaware State Hornets but ended up falling 8-0.

Standout Performances

Key Moments

  • Delaware State started off the scoring with four runs in the first three innings and then added on two more in the fifth to go up 6-0. Trey Paige highlighted the Hornets scoring in the early part of the game with a homer in the third that made it 4-0 at the time.
  • However, in the bottom of the fifth, Stonehill threatened as the Purple and White loaded the bases after Sam Parks drew a walk with two outs. Despite the bases-loaded jam, Delaware State starter, Jordan Haddaway induced a flyout to end the threat. Prior to Parks' walk, Taylor Gaspar had a walk himself and Kiely ripped a double to right.
  • The Hornets tacked on two more runs with a run in both the eighth and ninth to go up eight, but in the ninth, the Skyhawks again had a runner in scoring position. Chris Roberti led off the inning with a single and when Matthew Vivona drew a walk. With Roberti at second, Gaspar moved him up to third despite grounding into a double play. However, Jack Messmore retired Stonehill's final batter for the 8-0 win.
