#9 Saint Rose Tops Stonehill 1-0

Puopolo keeps Golden Knights undefeated with her 10th goal this season

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 1, 2011) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team lost to the College of Saint Rose, ranked ninth overall in the latest NCAA Division II National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National poll, 1-0 in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Saturday afternoon. The Skyhawks, ranked fourth overall in the East Region by the NSCAA, received votes in the NSCAA National poll this week.

Sophomore forward Carmelina Puopolo (Scarborough, ONT/Cardinal Newman) gave the Golden Knights an early lead at 20:35 firing a shot into the top far side of the net behind Skyhawks goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Darmouth) for her 10th goal of the season and eventual game-winner.

Saint Rose's defense handled the rest not allowing a single Stonehill shot in the contest. The Golden Knights tallied 22 shots total - 13 first half/nine second half - on the afternoon and won the corners matchup, 12-0.

Wheaton kept the Skyhawks in the game turning away five shots on net.

Stonehill (7-3-1/5-2-1 NE-10) hosts Bentley University on Tuesday, October 4 in NE-10 action at Skyhawk Field at 4 p.m. Saint Rose (10-0-1/7-0-1 NE-10) plays Saint Anselm, at home, in a NE-10 contest on Saturday, October 8 at noon.
