Godin scores twice to defeat Skyhawks

ALBANY, N.Y. (November 4, 2011) – The College of Saint Rose women's soccer team, seeded first overall in the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Tournament and ranked 15^th overall in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Poll, dealt Stonehill College a 2-0 loss in NE-10 semifinal round action on Friday evening at the Christian Plumeri Sports Complex.

Saint Rose (18-1-1, 13-1-1 NE-10) advances to the NE-10 championship round on Sunday, November 6 against second-seeded Merrimack (16-2-1, 11-2-1 NE-10) who defeated Southern New Hampshire University, 2-1, in overtime earlier this evening. The Golden Knights will look to claim their fifth-straight NE-10 title on Sunday while Merrimack makes its first trip back to the NE-10 championship round since 2003, a 4-3 loss to Franklin Pierce.

Stonehill (11-7-2, 8-5-2 NE-10), making its eighth appearance in the NE-10 semifinal round in program history, will now await word on a hopeful at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament which will be announced on Monday, November 7 at 7 p.m.

Senior forward/midfielder Brittany Godin (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) led Saint Rose offensively scoring both goals in the contest, all in the second half, for her 11^th and 12 markers and fourth game-winning goal of the season.

After a scoreless first half, Godin put the Golden Knights on the scoreboard at 61:43 heading home  Sydney Bond's (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) shot that ricocheted off of the crossbar past Stonehill goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) for a 1-0 lead.

Godin added an insurance goal at 80:15 collecting a turnover in the midfield and blasting a shot from about 25-yards out on the right flank into top right corner of the net for a 2-0 advantage and the eventual win.

Wheaton kept Stonehill in the game turning away six shots total including a spectacular save in the 24^th minute robbing a Carmelina Puopolo (Scarborough, Ont./Cardinal Newman) bid with a diving save to her right.

Saint Rose limited the Skyhawks offense to just two shots on the evening – zero on net – while the Golden Knights rattled off 20 in the contest. Saint Rose also won the corners matchup, 14-0, compiling 10 chances in the second half.
