Stonehill Falls To #15 Merrimack, 2-0, On The Road

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (October 26, 2011) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Merrimack College, ranked #15 in in the latest NCAA Division II National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National poll and no.2 in the East Regional rankings, in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Wednesday night at Martone-Mejail Field. The Skyhawks are currently ranked eighth in the East Regional rankings.

Senior back Jessica Peacock (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) opened up the scoring at 38:11 striking a free kick opportunity past Skyhawks goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead and her third goal of the season.

Sophomore forward Danielle Dion (Grosvenordale, Conn./Tourtellote Memorial) pushed the Warriors gap to 2-0 at 68:38 receiving a pass from teammate Marissa DePaolo (Milford, Mass./Milford) and firing a shot behind Wheaton in the lower left corner of the net for her sixth goal of the season.

Wheaton kept Stonehill in the contest making seven saves total with five coming in the second half. Merrimack goalkeeper Kiley Horne (Scituate, Mass./Thayer Academy) turned away five shots for her eighth clean sheet of the season while the Warriors defense had one team save.

Merrimack outshot Stonehill, 28-19, and won the corners matchup, 8-4.

Stonehill (9-6-2, 7-5-2 NE-10) travels to Assumption College on Saturday, October 29 for a conference matchup starting at 1 p.m. Merrimack (14-2-1, 11-2-1 NE-10), winners of three out of its last four contests, hosts Pace University on Saturday, October 29 in NE-10 play at 6 p.m.
