Le Moyne Holds On To Defeat Stonehill, 1-0, On Senior Day

Skyhawks fall to 9-5-2 overall, 7-4-2 in NE-10 play

EASTON, Mass. (October 22, 2011) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team lost to the Dolphins of Le Moyne College, 1-0, in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field on Senior Day.

During halftime, seniors Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee), Kelsey Mahoney (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) and Alexandra Murphy (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) were all honored for their contributions towards the Stonehill women's soccer program.

Junior forward Christie Morano (Highland, N.Y./Highland) netted the game-winner for Le Moyne at 75:46 as a clear attempt from Stonehill's defense was deflected by Morano over the leap of Skyhawks goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) into the back of the net for her team-leading ninth marker of the season.

Stonehill had its chances in the second half compiling 10 corner kicks, including three consecutive corners late in the match, but never found the equalizer.

Freshman goalkeeper Kelsey McDonald (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) was the difference for the Dolphins posting seven saves on the afternoon for her first-ever collegiate win (1-4-0) and first-ever shutout.

Stonehill outshot Le Moyne, 23-6, with 14 shots coming in the second half and won the corners matchup, 10-1.

The Skyhawks (9-5-2, 7-4-2 NE-10) are back in action on Wednesday, October 26 at 7 p.m. against Merrimack College on the road. The Dolphins (4-11-0, 3-10-0 NE-10) hosts American International on Wednesday, October 26 at 3:30 p.m.
