Skyhawks Upend Chargers In Double Overtime, 2-1

Trudeau deposits game-winner at 103:24                

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (October 16, 2011) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team earned a 2-1 double overtime victory over the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Sunday afternoon at Kayo Field.

Freshman forward Renee Trudeau (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) netted the game-winner at 103:24 finishing on a through pass from Kate Wegener (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) to lift the Skyhawks to an 8-4-2 record overall and 6-3-2 mark in the NE-10. New Haven falls to 6-7-0 overall and 4-7-0 in the NE-10.

Trudeau's marker in the double overtime session was her first-ever collegiate goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) was key to the Skyhawks win turning away 10 shots in the contest. Kim Taylor (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) made six stops in net for the Chargers.

New Haven tied up the contest midway through the first half (36:18) as Brenna Weidman (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) corralled a pass from teammate Courtney Marra (New Fairfield, Conn./Immaculate) and fired it past Wheaton to even the score at 1-1.

Senior forward Kelsey Mahoney (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehobeth) opened up the scoring at 15:17 striking home a corner kick from Maddie Manning (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) for a 1-0 advantage and her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The Chargers held a 22-12 differential in shots while both teams were tied in the corners matchup at 5-5.
