Skyhawks Land Three NE-10 Weekly Honors

Junior back Sara Nagle dubbed NE-10
Defensive Player of the Week

Hickey, Murphy and Nagle all lauded by conference

EASTON, Mass. (September 7, 2011) – Three members of the Stonehill College women's soccer team have earned weekly awards from the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10), it was announced earlier this week. Senior Alexandra Murphy (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) collected her first-career Player of the Week award, senior Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) earned her second-career Goalkeeper of the Week award and junior back Sara Nagle (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) notched her first Defensive Player of the Week award.

Murphy led a Skyhawks offense that posted 10 goals over the weekend netting a hat-trick and dishing out one assist in a 5-0 victory over Nyack last Friday. On the following day against Caldwell, the senior forward set up the game-winning goal in another 5-0 triumph.

In her career at Stonehill, Murphy now has two hat-tricks against Nyack with her first coming in a 7-0 victory over the Warriors on September 2, 2010. Murphy has also been recognized by the NE-10 before earning Freshman of the Week honors on September 14, 2008 and NE-10 All-Rookie Team honors in the same season.

Hickey was equally as instrumental to the Skyhawks success over their 2-0 weekend turning in two clean sheets on 10 saves total. On Friday, Hickey turned away four shots versus Nyack and bettered her save total on Saturday with six stops against Caldwell.

This is Hickey's second Goalkeeper of the Week honor in her career as the senior captain also accomplished the feat on October 26, 2009. For that season, Hickey compiled a 10-8-1 record overall, a 1.28 goals against average and five shutouts.

Nagle, a junior marking back, guided Stonehill's defense over the weekend allowing just one shot on goal from either of the team's strikers in both contests marking the first time a Stonehill player has been dubbed Defensive Player of the Week by the NE-10 since the conference developed the award a year ago.

In her two-year career for the Skyhawks thus far, Nagle has been a mainstay on the back line earning NE-10 All-Rookie Team honors in 2009 to go along with a New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) All-New England Second Team selection and a NE-10 All-Conference Third Team selection last fall.

Stonehill (2-1, 0-1 NE-10) returns to action on Friday, September 9, on the road, versus Saint Michael's in a NE-10 match-up starting at 4 p.m. The Skyhawks next home contest is against NE-10 opponent, Adelphi, on Sunday, September 11 at Skyhawk Field with a scheduled start for 1 p.m.
