First quarter goal enough as Panthers win tenth straight, with fifth-straight shutout

EASTON, Mass. (October 18, 2019) – Adelphi University, ranked No. 6 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, scored a goal late in the first quarter and made it stand the rest of the way in posting a 1-0 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.
Junior Danielle Kempf scored the game's lone goal and postgrad Stephanie Peragallo and the Adelphi defense made it stand the rest of the way as the Panthers won their ten-straight game with a fifth consecutive shutout. Adelphi has now yielded just ten goals in 14 games this season, including a mere three markers over its current win streak, as it extended its shutout streak to 282:04 minutes.

Peragallo made one save in posting her fifth shutout of the year in the Adelphi goal. Junior Katie Lammando registered two second half stops in the Stonehill cage, while sophomore Sophie Schreck added a defensive save, to give the Skyhawks a chance to equalize. Both teams finished with eight shots in the tightly defended contest, with the Skyhawks forcing eight penalty corners to four for the visitors.
Kempf struck for her third goal of the year with 2:19 remaining in the first quarter, when freshman Giana McKeough followed up her own rebound off a blocked shot and slid a pass to the left post for the one-time goal from Kempf.
Stonehill had the better of the scoring chances from there, with two quality chances in the fourth quarter to equalize. Senior Michaela Antonellis rang the left post with a lined shot off a penalty corner less than two minutes into the final frame. The Skyhawks were also able the force a late corner with two seconds remaining, but the shot went over the cage to end the game.
Stonehill (7-5, 7-3 NE10) is back in action here at W.B. Mason Stadium on Wednesday, when it hosts the University of New Haven for an NE10 matchup at 3 p.m. Adelphi (12-2, 10-1 NE10) hosts Bentley University on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
