Antonellis posts goal and assist, while leading defense to fifth shutout

EASTON, Mass. (November 1, 2019) – Stonehill College netted three second half goals off corners to secure a 3-0 victory over Mercy College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon
Stonehill (11-5, 11-3 NE10) clinches the No. 4 seed for next week's NE10 Tournament and hosting rights for Tuesday's quarterfinal round matchup with fifth-seeded Assumption College, ranked No. 8 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, which will be played here at W.B. Mason Stadium at 1 p.m. Mercy sees its first season in the NE10 come to a close with a 3-12 record overall, including 3-11 in the NE10.

Senior All-American Michaela Antonellis led Stonehill's defensive effort which limited Mercy to five shots and five penalty corners for the afternoon to post its second-straight shutout and fifth of the season overall. She also contributed on the Skyhawks 20 corners, which produced all three second-half goals, with a goal and assist. She was assisted on the defensive end by junior McKenzie Woerner and freshman Andrea Caradonna, with junior Katie Lammando posting three saves to preserve the shutout in goal.
Senior Grace Pickering chipped in with her first career goal in her 52nd career game played at Stonehill, while sophomore Elisha Brinkman added a goal as well.
Sophomore Lauren Viscione posted nine saves in the Mercy goal, including four in a shutout first half.
After a scoreless first half, Stonehill struck for a pair of goals just 20-seconds apart, off two of the Skyhawks nine corners in the third quarter. Antonellis took a corner pass and cut past a defender before firing in the opening goal with her fourth marker of the season 3:10 into the second half. Stonehill forced another corner quickly after gaining possession following the goal and Pickering pounced on a rebound off a shot by sophomore Olivia Cameron just 20-seconds later.
Stonehill extended its lead in the fourth as Brinkman followed her own corner and fired in her fourth of the year off a pass from Antonellis 6:01 into the final frame.
