Barbush provides lone goal 1:32 into second extra period

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (September 8, 2019) – East Stroudsburg (Pa.) University, ranked No. 3 in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, slipped past No. 8 Stonehill College, 1-0 in double-overtime, in non-conference field hockey action at Whitenight Field this afternoon.

Sophomore Hannah Barbush deposited the lone goal of the game into the cage, when she pounced on a loose ball in the crease following East Stroudsburg's 23rd penalty corner of the contest 1:32 into the second overtime session. The Warriors finished the afternoon with a 37-3 advantage in shots, with senior Maddie Richie preserving the shutout win with three saves.

Junior Katie Lammando, making her second career start this weekend, doubled up her nine save effort in her first career start on Friday, with a career-best 18 stops this afternoon. The total is just one shy of former teammate Sara Freedman's '19 personal-best of 19 saves against Shippensburg (Pa.) University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 2017. Sophomore Sophie Schreck also registered a defensive save for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill's best scoring chance came in the third quarter as sophomores Olivia Cameron and Elisha Brinkman each tested Richie in the 39th minute, the latter coming off a penalty corner attempt by the Skyhawks. Stonehill also forced a corner late in the first overtime session, but was unable to fire off a shot.

Stonehill (0-2, 0-0 NE10) is off until its home opener Saturday, when it hosts Southern Connecticut State University for its Northeast-10 Conference opener at W.B. Mason Stadium at 11 a.m. East Stroudsburg (2-0, 0-0 PSAC) visits Molloy College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
