Quigley's second-half hat trick fires Skyawks to third-straight win

SPARKILL, N.Y. (October 5, 2019) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 10 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, scored four second half goals to pick up a 4-2 victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Spartan Field this afternoon.

Freshman Mackenzie Quigley netted her first career hat trick to lead Stonehill to the comeback win. Sophomore Sophie Schreck dished out two assists and classmate Emma Mawn added a goal for the Skyhawks, who are winners of three-straight and six of seven.

Junior Katie Lammando went the distance in goal for Stonehill, which recorded a 17-3 advantage in shots for the afternoon. Junior Suzanne Clarke posted 11 saves in the St. Thomas Aquinas cage over 49:54, before yielding to sophomore Jessie Hohenstein for the final 10:06.

STAC got goals from junior Jade Hall and sophomore Lotte Strijbos on the afternoon.

Hall gave STAC a halftime lead with her third goal of the year, assisted by junior Meghan McCarren, 3:48 into the second quarter. Stonehill responded with four-straight goals in the second half to claim the win. Mawn knotted the score with her sixth goal of the season 8:08 into the third quarter off a pass from sophomore Olivia Cameron. Quigley followed with her first of the day two minutes later, assisted by Schreck, to give the Skyhawks the lead with 4:36 remaining in the quarter.

Quigley added two fourth quarter goals to seal the win and close out her first career multi-goal game. She potted an unassisted tally 1:21 into the fourth quarter and then

capped her hat trick off another Schreck pass less than three minutes later for her fifth goal of the season. Strijbos closed out the scoring with 4:44 to play with her third goal of the season, assisted by senior Briannah Thorne.

Stonehill (6-3, 6-1 NE10) returns to action on Wednesday, when it hosts third-ranked Saint Anselm College for its Purple and White Game at W.B. Mason Stadium at 3:30 p.m. St. Thomas Aquinas (4-6, 2-4 NE10) hosts Pace University on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
