EASTON, Mass. (October 9, 2019) – Saint Anselm College, ranked No. 4 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), remained unscored upon in Northeast-10 Conference play in posting a 2-0 victory over No. 10 Stonehill College in a top-ten field hockey matchup on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B Mason Stadium this afternoon.

Junior Julia Hand was untested in posting her sixth shutout of the year for Saint Anselm. The Hawks defense limited Stonehill to just two shots in holding their eighth NE10 opponent scoreless in as many outings this season, marking their tenth shutout of the season in 11 games overall. Saint Anselm has yet to yield a goal in 480 NE10 minutes played this fall, and conceded just three goals over 660 total minutes this season.

Saint Anselm got goals from senior Mary Nee and junior Hannah Potter in a tightly contested defensive battle.

Junior Katie Lammando registered three saves in goal for Stonehill, which was handed its first home defeat in four games this season.

After a scoreless first quarter, Saint Anselm grabbed the lead just 48-seconds into the second, charging down the field with the opening possession. Nee drove a low shot past Lammando from just inside the top of the arc off a pass from low on the left side by senior Michelle Lemelin for her third goal of the season. The Hawks added an insurance marker with 1:12 left in the third quarter as Potter scored her first of the year, tipping in a pass from the right side from junior Ericka Meissner.

The Saint Anselm defense took care of the lead from there, holding Stonehill to single shots in the first and third quarters to preserve the win, both of which went wide.

Stonehill (6-4, 6-2 NE10) looks to bounce back on Saturday, when it visits American International College for an NE10 clash in Springfield, Massachusetts, at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return to W.B. Mason Stadium next Friday, October 18, to host Adelphi University, ranked No. 7 this week, for a Mental Health Awareness Game at 2 p.m. Saint Anselm (10-1, 8-0 NE10) hosts Pace University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
