Volleyball Wins Sixth-Straight with Four-Set Win at Rival Bentley, 3-1

WALTHAM, Mass. (November 5, 2021) - Stonehill College, ranked No. 1 in this week's NCAA Division II East Region rankings, kept the momentum rolling, picking up its sixth straight victory, and 15th win in the last 16 matches with a 3-1 (25-19, 20-25, 25-22, 25-15) victory at rival Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference volleyball action inside the Dana Athletic Center tonight.

The Details

  • Stonehill posts its tenth NE10 win of the season and 20th overall, reaching the 20-win plateau for the eighth time in program history and first since winning 21 matches in 2014. That also marks the last time the Skyhawks reached ten NE10 wins, when it clinched a share of its lone Conference regular season championship.
  • Stonehill was led by senior Abby Remick with a double-double effort of 15 kills and ten digs while also tacking on two blocks and a pair of service aces. Junior Basia Peragine dded 13 kills to the Skyhawk offense.

    Senior Lauren Wilke and junior Molly Turner split the setting time on the day with Wilke dishing out 27 helpers while Turner finished with 18. Senior Carly Russell added 31 digs in the game while classmate Clare Feeman added five blocks.
  • Stonehill utilized a 10-2 run early in the first set to take a 13-6 lead over the Falcons. Remick reeled off four kills during that span while Peragine added a block. Bentley responded with a 7-1 run of its own to cut the deficit to just one, but Stonehill scored five-straight points including an ace from Wilke to build an insurmountable lead en route to the 25-19 first set win
  • Bentley responded in the second set, erasing an early 5-2 Stonehill lead and taking an 8-7 lead of its own. After some back and forth play a three-point run gave the Falcons the edge they needed to capture the 25-20 victory.
  • Bentley kept that momentum going in the third set jumping out to a 7-1 lead, but Stonehill chipped away via a couple of 3-0 runs, ultimately tying the set at 11-11 thanks to a Jentry Allen kill. The two teams traded points until 22-all when Stonehill finished the set on a 3-0 run, taking advantage of three-straight Bentley attack errors to come away with the 25-22 victory
  • Stonehill closed things out in the fourth set, utilizing the momentum of set three to garner an early 7-3 lead thanks to a pair of kills and an ace from Remick and kills from Peragine and Feeman. The Skyhawks were able to keep Bentley at bay for the remainder of the set, finishing things off on a 7-0 run behind the serving of Russell. Remick poetically finished things off with a kill for the victory.

Stonehill (20-6, 10-1 NE10) is right back in action tomorrow afternoon for a huge Senior Day NE10 clash with the University of New Haven, ranked No. 4 in the East Region, at Merkert Gymnasium at 2 p.m. The Skyhawks can clinch at least a share of their second NE10 regular season title with a win, while the Chargers need a win to keep their hopes of the title and top seed for the upcoming NE10 Tournament alive. Bentley (13-10, 9-2 NE10) will remain at home to host American International College tomorrow at 1 p.m.
