Volleyball Sweeps Pair to Even Mark

Skyhawks defeat host Roberts Wesleyan and D'Youville  on day one of Redhawks Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (September 17, 2021) – Stonehill College evened its overall record after sweeping its two matches on day one of the 2021 Redhawks Invitational, hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College, at Voller Athletic Center this afternoon.

Stonehill opened with a 3-1 (25-19, 25-11, 22-25, 25-22) victory over host Roberts Wesleyan behind 12 kills apiece by junior Basia Peragine and sophomore Jentry Allen. Sophomore Kristen DeLorenzo added a career-high 20 digs, while senior Lauren Wilke totaled 30 assists, eight digs and two service aces.

Stonehill followed that up by hitting .402 as a team, committing just 12 attack errors, in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-16) sweep of D'Youville College of Buffalo in its second match of the afternoon. Peragine again notched double figure kills with 11, while senior Abby Remick also totaled 11 kills, while hitting .409, with eight digs and a service ace.

  • Stonehill jumped out to a two-set lead, hitting .452 as a team, with just two hitting errors, in the second set on its way to a 25-11 margin.
  • Roberts Wesleyan took the third set 25-22, before Stonehill sealed the win with an identical score in the fourth set.
  • Stonehill clinched the final set by winning the final three points off a kill by Peragine, a DeLorenzo service ace and then RWC attack error to end the match.

  • Stonehill hit .402 as a team for the match, rolling to the three-set victory.
  • Stonehill hit .407 in the second set and then committed just one attack error in the third for a .500 hitting percentage to see the match out.
  • Ties at 11-11 in the first set, Stonehill closed out the set with a 14-4 run, keyed by a seven-point run on senior Carly Russell's serve.
  • Stonehill closed the set out with a 6-0 run on the serve of DeLorenzo.
  • Stonehill sealed the second set with an 11-2 run with a 14-12 lead, with Russell closing the set on serve, including three aces over the final four points.

Stonehill (4-4, 0-0 NE10) is right back in action tomorrow for day two of the Redhawks Invitational, opening against fellow Northeast-10 Conference member University of New Haven for a non-conference matchup at 11 a.m., before wrapping up against Daemen College at 1:15 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Tuesday, September 21, to host Bentley University for a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
