Volleyball Continues to Roll with Saint Rose Sweep, 3-0

EASTON, Mass. (October 23, 2021) - Stonehill College won for the 11th time over its last 12 matches and picked up its second-straight sweep with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-16) victory over The College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference volleyball action at Merkert Gymnasium this afternoon.

The Details

  • Stonehill was led by 14 kills from senior Abby Remick, who hit .464 on the day while also adding eight digs and a pair of blocks, as well as a 10-kill, four dig outing from Junior Basia Peragine.
  • Junior Molly Turner stepped in and recorded three aces in the outing, including a pair of game-changers in the first set, while also tacking on a trio of assists.

    After a tight first set that saw Saint Rose get out to as much as an 8-6 lead early on, a trio of points behind the serving of senior Carly Russell to help Stonehill regain a 13-12 lead. Turner tacked on a pair of service aces to give the Skyhawks a 16-13 cushion en route to the first set victory. 
  • The second set was all Stonehill's from start to finish. An early ace from Remick combined with a 4-0 run that saw a pair of kills from Remick, as well as an ace from senior Lauren Wilke built an insurmountable 15-8 lead for Stonehill as they sailed into the second set win thanks to a kill from Wilke.
  • Saint Rose got out to a 2-1 lead to start the third set, but Stonehill rallied off four-straight points to turn the tide, only continuing to build upon their lead as the set progressed. A service ace from senior Shannon Burgess, sandwiched between a couple of kills from Remick made it an 11-5 set. Saint Rose was able to inch closer towards the end, but a 4-0 run late put the game out of reach for Stonehill en route to the sweep.

Stonehill (16-6, 6-1 NE10) is off until Friday night, when it visits Pace University for an NE10 match at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks next home match is Wednesday, November 3, when they host Assumption University at 7 p.m. Saint Rose (7-15, 1-7 NE10) hosts Franklin Pierce University Friday at 6 p.m.
