NEW HAVEN, Conn. (October 5, 2021) - Stonehill College powered its way to its sixth-straight win and 11th over its last 12 matches overall, with a 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-10, 25-21) victory over Southern Connecticut State University in a non-conference volleyball matchup at Pelz Gymnasium tonight.

The Details

  • Sophomore Jentry Allen led four from Stonehill in double-figures for kills with a career-high 15, posting a .452 hitting percentage, marking her fourth match in double-digits over the Skyhawks last five.
  • Senior Lauren Wilke steered the offense with 41 assists, while totaling 19 digs for her seventh double-double of the season, including four over the last five, while contributing three kills and a service ace.
  • Senior Abby Remick added 12 kills and seven digs, while classmate Shannon Burgess tallied 11 kills and just one error for a .500 hitting percentage, and two block assists.
  • Junior Basia Peragine rounded out the Stonehill attack in double figures with 11 kills and five digs.
  • Senior Carly Russell chipped in with 20 digs and eight assists.
  • Stonehill raced out to a 15-4 lead in the opening set and didn't look back. The Skyhawks scored seven straight points on the serve of freshman Bianca Fitch, starting with a service ace, while Burgess tallied back-to-back kills during that stretch. Burgess also clinched the set with a kill.
  • Southern knotted the match at a set apiece with a tightly contested second set, capped by a kill by senior Lillee Olson and Stonehill attack error with the match knotted at 23-23.
  • Stonehill rolled again in the third, running off 11-straight points on the serve of sophomore Kristen DeLorenzo that turned a 10-5 lead into a 21-5 advantage after her second ace of the run.
  • Stonehill clinched the match in the fourth, breaking a 15-15 deadlock with a 4-1 run, keyed by a pair of Burgess kills, and the Skyhawks were able to close out the match from there.

Stonehill (11-5, 2-0 NE10) is back in action on Saturday, when it visits Franklin Pierce University for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Saturday, October 16, to host Saint Michael's College for its Dig Pink match at Merkert Gym at 6 p.m. Southern Conn. State (13-5, 2-1 NE10) visits The College of Saint Rose on Friday at 7 p.m.
