Volleyball Rallies Again at SNHU, 3-2

MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 15, 2021) - Stonehill College rallied for a five-set victory for the second-straight match and third time over the last five to claim its eighth-straight win after a 3-2 (25-19, 19-25, 16-25, 26-24, 25-19) decision over Southern New Hampshire University in a non-conference volleyball match at Stan Spirou Fieldhouse tonight.

The Details

  • Stonehill College rallied for a five-set victory for the second-straight match and third time over the last five to claim its eighth-straight win after a 3-2 (25-19, 19-25, 16-25, 26-24, 25-19) decision over Southern New Hampshire University in a non-conference volleyball match at Stan Spirou Fieldhouse tonight.
  • Junior Basia Peragine paced Stonehill for the second-straight match with a season-high matching 21 kills with a .364 hitting percentage, three digs and two block assists.
  • Senior Lauren Wilke dished out 48 assists, with three in double figures for kills, while finishing off a double-double with 16 digs.
  • Senior Abby Remick contributed a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs, while classmate Clare Feeman totaled 11 kills with a .333 hitting percentage, and four blocks for the Skyhawks.

    Senior Carly Russell chipped in with 24 digs and five assists for Stonehill.
  • Junior Dai Thawnghmung paced SNHU with a double-double effort of 16 kills and 23 digs, while adding four block assists and an ace.
  • Stonehill took the opening set, but SNHU followed by winning the next two, including a 25-16 score line in the third, and the Skyhawks trailed 21-15 in the fourth before roaring back to life.
  • Remick delivered back-to-back kills after a Stonehill timeout to get the rally sparked and the Skyhawks crept back to within a point (23-22) after a Peragine kill.
  • Stonehill was able to fend off match point at 24-22 with a kill from senior Shannon Burgess as the Skyhawks followed with the next three points on Russell's serve, including a Peragine kill before the Penmen had two-straight attack errors to close out the set.
  • The fifth set went into extended points to determine the match winner after Stonehill had won the first four points of the decisive set. The Skyhawks survived another match point (14-13) with Burgess and Remick contributing back-to-back kills.
  • Peragine and Burgess sealed Stonehill's eighth straight win and 13th over the last 14 matches with consecutive kills with the set knotted at 19-19.

Stonehill (13-5, 3-0 NE10) is right back in action tomorrow night, when it hosts Saint Michael's College for its Dig Pink Match to benefit the Sideout Foundation at Merkert Gymnasium as part of Homecoming Weekend at the College at 6 p.m. SNHU (7-7, 3-2 NE10) visits Saint Michael's on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
