Warrensburg, Missouri, senior collects weekly award for second time this fall after New York sweep
EASTON, Mass. (November 2, 2021) – Stonehill College senior defensive specialist Carly Russell has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Libero of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced today.
Russell, who also collected NE10 Libero of the Week accolades on October 12, helped Stonehill to a pair of wins in New York in the Skyhawks only two matches for the week, averaging 5.89 digs and 0.33 service aces per set. She tallied 28 digs, an ace and eight assists in Saturday afternoon's thrilling 3-2 (17-25, 25-20, 25-13, 21-25, 18-16) triumph at Adelphi University. Russell registered 25 digs, two aces and five assists in Friday night's 3-1 (25-20, 25-15, 29-31, 25-23) win at Pace University. She has now posted 20-plus digs in seven matches this fall, giving her ten for her career.
Russell has appeared in 87 sets over 24 matches played this season for Stonehill and ranks seventh among NE10 leaders with her 4.54 digs per set, while adding a team-best 0.33 service aces per set. She matched her career-best with 31 digs at Daemen College on September 18 and served up a career-high five aces in a three-set win over D'Youville College on September 17.

Russell has appeared in 276 sets over 76 career matches played in her four seasons at Stonehill, totaling 833 digs (3.02 per set), with 64 service aces (0.23) and 99 assists. She has been named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll multiple semesters at the College, while also being named to the Dean's List. Russell is currently in her second year as president of Stonehill's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), having represented the volleyball program on the committee all four years and serving as team liaison for Team IMPACT for three. She received her Class Leadership Award as a sophomore and has volunteered her time with My Brother's Keeper and Ace's Girls.
Stonehill (18-6, 8-1 NE10), winners of its last four matches and 13 of 14 overall, opens a key three match week on Wednesday, when it hosts Assumption University for an NE10 matchup at Merkert Gymnasium at 7 p.m. After visiting rival Bentley University on Friday at 7:30 p.m., the Skyhawks host the University of New Haven for what is shaping up to be a Senior Day showdown for first place in the NE10 on Saturday inside Merkert Gym at 2 p.m.
