Men's Hockey Falls to Lindenwood at Home

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (February 9, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team dropped a 10-1 decision to Lindenwood University at the Bridgewater Ice Arena Friday night.

Highlights

  • Senior captain Max Pineo registered the lone goal for the Skyhawks, marking his third of the season.
  • Sophomore classmates Frank Ireland and William Tripp dished out assists on Pineo's power-play goal.
  • Sophomore goaltender Dylan Meilun  and junior Gavin FitzPatrick split time in between the pipes, tallying a combined 35 saves on the night.
  • Senior Zachary Aughe led the Lions with four points on the night off two goals and two assists.
  • Freshman duo of Jaeden Mercier and Ethan Zielke added three points each to help lead Lindenwood to victory.
  • Junior netminder Trent Burnham earned his sixth win of the season in goal after stopping 25 of his 26 shots faced.

How it Happened

  • Lindenwood started the scoring right away as the Lions jumped out to a commanding three-goal lead after 20 minutes of action. 
  • Freshman Jake Southgate scored at the 2:52 mark of the first before freshman Austin Fraser lit the lamp less than two minutes later.
  • Junior Mitch Allard capped off the scoring of the first in the minute of the frame after finding the back of the cage for his fifth goal of the season.
  • The Lions continued to apply offensive pressure throughout the second period, pouring five goals on the board to extend their lead to 8-0 heading into the second intermission.
  • Pineo got the Skyhawks on the board in the third, scoring on the power-play off a rebounded shot from Ireland in front of the Lindenwood net at the 12:24 mark of the final frame.
  • After Pineo's lamp lighter, the Lions regained their offensive momentum as Aughe netted a pair of goals at the 14:02 and 17:21 marks of the third to cap off the dominating, 10-1, victory over the Skyhawks.
