BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (February 3, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team was shutout at home, 5-0, to familiar opponent Long Island University Saturday night. With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 0-28 overall, while the Sharks improve to 12-16-1 on the season.

Highlights

• The Skyhawks first line of Frank Ireland, Henri Schreifels, and Dean Schwenninger led the Skyhawks with two shots on goal each.
• Sophomore goaltender Dylan Meilun posted 23 saves in goal for the Skyhawks.
• Junior Chris Pappas led the Sharks with a goal and two assists on the night, while graduate student Adam Pitters added two goals of his own.
• Postgrad netminder Brandon Perrone recorded his second shutout of the season after stopping all 15 shots he faced in net.   

How it Happened

• After a scoreless and even first 20 minutes of action, LIU would open the floodgates in the second period, jumping out to a 3-0 lead. 
• Pitters opened the scoring less than two minutes into the middle frame after lighting the lamp on his first goal of the period and third of the season.
• Sophomore Josh Zary doubled the Shark's lead on the scoreboard at the 8:18 mark of the second before Pitters found the back of the net once again off assists from senior Jack Quinn and graduate student Grayson Constable.
• LIU continued to apply the offensive pressure coming out of the second intermission as Pappas rifled a shot past Meilun in net on the power-play to extend the Shark's advantage to four goals.
• Sophomore Valtteri Piironen capped off the scoring at the 3:11 mark of the final frame of regulation, netting his third goal of the season. 
• The Sharks advantage grew too much for the Skyhawks to overcome in the third, as Stonehill eventually fell to LIU, 5-0.
