Union Sweeps Weekend Series Against Men’s Ice Hockey

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (November 25, 2023) – Stonehill College men's ice hockey dropped a match at Union College Friday night, 4-0, as the Skyhawks dropped to 0-14-0 on the year as they concluded a two-game series from Messa Rink at the Achilles Center this weekend.

  • Four different Chargers scored four Union with Chaz Smedsrud and Brandon Buhr each tallying their fifth goals of the season.
  • John Prokop of Union tallied his 12th assist of the season and Nate Hanley had his ninth assist of the year.
  • Netminder Kyle Chauvette posted a shutout for the Chargers to improve to 6-4-0 on the year with 21 saves.
  • The Stonehill goalie, sophomore Dylan Meilun, had 32 saves in the loss.
  • Junior Henri Schreifels led the Skyhawks with five shots on goal.

How it Happened

  • Union opened the scoring early in the first period, netting a power-play goal when Chaz Smedsrud sent a wrist shot from the dot of the right face-off circle after passes from John Prokop and Caden Villegas, giving the Chargers a 1-0 lead just 1:45 into the first period.
  •  Carter Korpi scored the second goal for Union at the 5:28 mark of the first period as he circled the puck around from right to left, sending a right-handed wrist shot on goal that found its way to the top-left corner of the net.
  • The Chargers scored a short-handed goal as Nate Hanley gathered the puck and skipped it up the middle to a streaking Cole Kodsi who found himself ahead of the Skyhawk defense and able to put a left-handed wrist shot on net past the stick-side of Meilun.
  • Brandon Buhr scored the fourth goal of the game for Union at the 11:13 mark of the second period, finding a loose puck in the Charger offensive zone where he was able to blast a right-handed wrist shot to the back of the net for the final score of the game.
  • Despite 12 shots on goal for Union in the third period and six shots on goal for Stonehill, the final frame went scoreless as the Chargers won the game 4-0 after 60 minutes of action.
