UTICA, N.Y. (December 1, 2023) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team fell to nationally ranked Utica University, 7-2, on Friday night. With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 0-15 on the season.

Highlights

  • Junior Henri Schreifels is now tied for the team lead with sophomore Frank Ireland with five goals on the season.
  • Freshman defender Devon Carlstrom recorded his first career goal against the Pioneers.
  • After dishing out an assist on Carlstrom's second period goal, Ireland now leads the squad with nine points on the year (5 G, 4 A).
  • Sophomore Dean Schwenninger led the Skyhawks offensively, registering two points on the night off a pair of assists.

  • Sophomore Ethan Roberts and junior Bryan Landsberger split duties in net. Roberts made 12 saves while Landsberger totaled 16.

How it Happened

  • Stonehill came out of the gates strong as just a minute in Schwenninger intercepted the puck and dished it over to Schreifels who found the back of the net on what was the Skyhawks' first shot attempt of the night.
  • However, the Pioneers would battle their way back netting three goals over the remaining 19 minutes of the opening frame to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
  • Utica would tack two more on the board in the second, after Morse scored his second goal of the game off an assist from Breault.
  • Freshman Aiden Hughes extended the Pioneer lead to 5-1 at the 16:45 mark of the middle frame after drawing a penalty on a breakaway and capitalizing on the penalty shot attempt.
  • In the closing minute of the second, Carlstrom would whistle a shot past Landsberger, bringing the score to 5-2 and stopping the string of Utica's five unanswered goals.
  • Breault and Morse would cap off the scoring in the third and final period to seal the 7-2 victory over the Skyhawks.
