Martin Earns Fourth NE-10 Rookie of the Week Selection

  

Medway, Mass. native helps Skyhawks open spring season with a sweep

EASTON, Mass. (March 15, 2011) – Stonehill College freshman Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week by the conference office for the fourth time this season.

Martin, who has earned the award every week she has competed this year, captured two wins for the Skyhawks in a 9-0 sweep of Saint Ambrose University on Monday morning. She picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles, and teamed up with junior Leah White (Walpole, Mass./Bishop Feehan) for an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles as Stonehill opened their spring schedule.

Martin is a combined 22-1 in her rookie season with a 9-1 singles record, including a 3-0 mark in the NE-10. She and White are 13-0 in doubles competition and this fall claimed doubles titles at the Salve Regina Grass Court Doubles Championships and in the B-flight of the USTA/ITA East Regional tournament.

Stonehill (5-0, 3-0 NE-10), currently ranked fourth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional poll, returns to action tomorrow in Kissimmee, Florida with a non-conference match against Tiffin University at 11:30 a.m.
